A Glorious Green Gate and Getting Things Done

I discovered this gate when we were visiting a potentially new school for one of my kiddos (those who know understand that this is no small feat). This worn-down, defiant gate has been standing strong since 1953. Who knows what stories it has seen? By this country's standard, 70 years is a drop in the bucket. I could not help but admire that it was still doing exactly what it was supposed to do and was still in pretty good shape—life goals.

And not only is the gate still doing its job, in all its peeling green glory, but the picture needed no filter and no edits. Nothing. This is exactly how it looked yesterday around 1130 AM IST. Not perfect, but not too bad either.

For weeks, I have hemmed and hawed about sending out an email to my subscribers. I formatted it, reformatted it, and then turned my attention elsewhere. "Am I oversharing?" I thought. "Is this the message I want to send out to the world?" and "Do I have the time to sustain such an endeavor?" I was getting stuck in the cycle of figuring out the future while trying to get things done in the present.

What makes my situation hilarious is that I know the importance of staying connected and putting yourself out there. I work in marketing, helping others share their message with the world. But, let's face it, it is much more difficult when it is personal. Am I right?

This gate was in the right place at the right time. It gave me just the push I needed this AM to create my email in all its imperfections. How many of us need to hear that things don't have to be perfect to get the job done? And just like the gate, I persevere and, hopefully, withstand all the elements.
