Good writing takes time. And and, for me a multi-step process. First, I write something, no holds barred. Second, I move on to something else and clear my mind. Third, I go back to my writing and read it from the perspective of my audience and I ask myself the following questions:
Does it make sense in general?
Does it makes sense to my target audience?
Does it provide all the information they need?
Does it ask them to take an action like sign up, stay tuned, register, etc.?
Are the sentences varied in length?
Did I have any questions about the details or am I reading any of the sentences twice to figure out what it means?
Are the tenses correct?
Once I address those questions, eliminate extraneous words, and make necessary content tweaks, I wrap up the process with the fourth and final step. I review the content for the last time by reading out loud, from the bottom up, and then once again all the way through. It sounds like along process but I promise it is not. The small breaks can help catch any errors and reading it out loud and from the bottom helps you perfect your content. If it is a really important piece it is always best to involve someone else in the editing process.
